In the aftermath of the battle in Mexico and Alexandra’s death, the complete ramifications are unknown but a suspicious invitation to join peace talks in Hawaii puts Raphael and Cyn on alert. Raphael will risk everything, every time except Cyn but he knows ignoring the invite would send the wrong message. She doesn’t trust whoever sent the invitation, given the salvo in Mexico, they want her Raphael dead.
There’s more waiting for our intrepid couple on Kauai than flora, fauna and fungi. Treachery and betrayal also wait. The European contingent underestimated Raphael and the loyalty of his children when they decided it was time to challenge him. The arrogant hosts also didn’t count on Cyn’s devotion to her vampire…or Raphael’s to her. If they had, they may not have decided it was time to declare war. It smells like hubris.
Although Raphael and Cyn are the focus for this outing favorite Lords and characters from previous reads make useful cameos and honorable mentions. Cyn gets show off Ms. Leighton, if you please. This action packed and surprisingly suspenseful read grabs you from the beginning and doesn’t let go until the last page.
