Pilot Zoe Stone has put out a call to find happy for a while. Fish & Wildlife Investigating Agent Parker James, her brother Wyatt’s college buddy needs an Idaho base for a vacation. He’s also ready to help Zoe out of that pesky rut she’s in. The strong, instant attraction between the pair gives them plenty of cute moments and situations as they valiantly try to fight it. And giving the reader smiles galore.
Not only is the house continuing to fall apart, Darcy and Wyatt are paired off leaving Zoe with empty nester syndrome in addition to being a poor baker and inept handywoman and lonely. Parker’s determined to exact justice for his friend and co-workers death, despite working against direct orders and injuries from his last assignment.
Zoe has to get past her trust issues and slowly opens to Parker as he tries to resolve a suspected smuggling ring in the area. Besides the last thing Zoe needs is someone geographically undesirable and Parker’s got no time for troublesome women and he’s dedicated to his career anyway. Damned chemistry! (Hmm …both of Wyatt’s sisters hooked up with his friends …)
With this author and this series the ending is a foregone conclusion but the fun is always in the journey. This outing is no exception as past couples drop in to wave goodbye, the lead couple is cute from start to finish and most moments in between. I liked but didn’t love the final installment but it was a suitable goodbye to another set of entertaining, quirky Shalvis characters.
