Not quite 17 year old Lady Rosalind Clifford is fascinated by rebel warrior Robert ‘Raider’ Boyd when he’s held prisoner at her brother, Robert, Baron of Clifford’s keep. After watching the prisoners a few days, Rosalind’s actions lead to a mass rebel escape. Six years later, she’s captured during a raid and though Robbie has thought of the idea of her often, he could only remember her soft lips from their earlier meeting.

The attraction hits them both when they see each other face to face as it does his compatriot. Rosalind fruitlessly begs for the release of herself and the other hostage to no avail. The reader is then treated to Rosalind feelings of betrayal by Robbie and fighting the attraction. For his part, Robbie is angry and confused about the knowledge of their earlier meeting and the knowledge that he can’t release her. He also has a full plate of jealousy when one of his compatriots seems to pay an inordinate amount of attention to Rosalind.

For my taste both leads were good as they tried to hold onto their prejudice against each other as a shield against the attraction. I liked the descriptive interaction of the battles of wills and politics between Rosalind and Raider, Robert and ‘The Bruce’, Raider and Seton. But there was too much of it causing the read to drag. This disappointed reader felt the romance was a secondary thread during this outing.
