Switching essences with Deidre so Gabriel would fall in love and they’d be immortally mated worked like a charm and Past Death is ecstatic her plan worked. Will’s guilty part in this scheme is a burden and he shouldn’t expect thanks from Gabriel. Fate’s cackling happily and delays his vacation to see if Past Death Deidre can meet Human Deidre’s challenge for the big prize of both their souls and Gabriel!
Darkyn strips PD-Deidre’s powers and memories of H-Deidre’s life prior to her own interference before he allows her in the mortal realm to woo Gabriel and ensures demons are aware of her and her plight. PD-Deidre’s fish out of water reactions in the human realm almost make a reader empathetic. Meanwhile, Will has to pay someone’s debt to Darkyn and can’t leave Hell until he does.
Gabriel’s no longer locked out of Death’s domain and finally has a place to store those souls his team has been battling the demons for. For this reader’s taste, while the new ruler of the underworld, Darkyn, turned up the big bad sexy, Gabriel was less smolderingly sexy and whinier making one wonder what the fuss is about. Once again this series bests itself for unexpected thoughts and activity.
