Beware drug dealers! Dedicated Social Worker Juliet ‘Jules’ Lawler has turned vigilante to avenge the death of a ‘street kid’ in her charge and they’re in her sights. Warrior Princess Jules finds ways to thwart the neighborhood dealers she holds responsible. Lashing out at a dealer in broad daylight brings Jules face to face with Vance Crowe of the Denver Hot Bunch at Nightingale Investigations.

Other children in Jules’ charge become aware of her nighttime activities and not only try to help her out, they talk enough so that her identity’s becomes an open secret. Soon the dealers know as well moving Jules from irritant to target on their radar. Vance steps up to keep her safe and his personal history makes him a touchstone for the children and their interaction.

For this reader this outing had a couple of not so good mentionables. 1) these men obviously like the same type of women but it seems there should be trust issues since they make ‘serious’ romantic/sexual overtures to their buddies ladies after they’re coupled and; 2) the final action set piece it didn’t flow smoothly, it was well executed and within the storyline limits but felt awkward and shoe-horned in.

Pluses for this read included a meaty plot,, the continued seamless and impressive evolution of this world and its characters as new characters and location are introduced and a highlight in this read was the strong emotional wrap-up summarizing the family this group of friends made and underscored how much ground this outing covered and was appreciatively fitting and not at all ham-fisted.
