Nine years ago, Rylann Pierce and Kyle Rhodes had a serious flirt as law grad student and Phd candidate, so serious it ended in a date that didn’t happen and a kiss that did. Since that time, Kyle became infamous for taking down Twitter and Rylann’s earned her AUSA stripes in California and relocated to Chicago. Naturally, her first case is holding up the AUSA’s deal with the FBI that clears Kyle.
Kyle couldn’t be more shocked to see Rylann stride into the courtroom and he’s pleased to finally know her last name but structured Rylann’s already prepared for the shock of seeing Kyle. His picture have the same affect on her he did in person the night they met. Having Kyle as a potential witness in her next case makes Rylann’s rule of not mixing mix business with pleasure harder to follow.
With the chemistry still explosive between the pair and Kyle done with being her witness, Rylann uncharacteristically throws caution to the wind and is full of regret the morning after. Kyle loses all his caution dealing with the prickly attorney when he realizes they’re definitely more than a one night stand.
While this fast paced, no surprises read stayed on point, glimpses of previous lead characters and their updates meaningfully tied in here. Also this outing clearly leaned more to romance and not suspense while the specifics of Kyle’s case were handled in a previous outing.
