Sophia, the Canadian territories vampire Lord’s domain is being threatened by the European vampires determined to rule it, so they’ve kidnapped her mate to distract her. Sophia told Raphael, Aden and Raj there was a traitor in her ranks and of Colin’s treatment, including repeated beatings, injuries and being force-fed another master vampire’s blood.
Aden offered the services of Lucifer Scuderi, a young vampire powerful enough to become a vampire Lord to find Colin and bring him home. Luc was known for being brash, confident and charming as well as a good hunter. Sophia assigned her bodyguard Eleanor Morel to work with him. Elle said nothing but her body language spoke volumes. Sophia noticed.
Luc was pleased to see Elle again though she had the opposite reaction, their broken history is told in flashbacks as their romance is re-kindled. Good action scenes gave Luc, Elle and Sophia time in the spotlight. Luc preened, Sophia got her get back and Elle didn’t crumple during her turn but this reader didn’t warm to Elle for quite some time.
Thankfully this slightly erotic tale wasn’t in lock step with Deception. Short chapters rotated between Sophia soldiering on, Elle and Luc’s past and the search for Colin kept the pacing even and pumped the excitement through the tale as additional traitors were routed even through the epilog which promised this is not the end.
