Obsession Untamed by Pamela Palmer

The previous outing left Vhypher escaping after stealing the Daemon blade that held the vicious Daemon King and his horde, a high level mage switching sides and be-spelling half of Tighe’s soul in a clone leaving only seven Feral Warriors to help their brethren and protect humans from the draden. Things got complicated when Tighe found himself seeing through the clone’s eyes and saw… her.

FBI agent Delaney Randall’s hot on the trail of an elusive serial killer that specializes in women and children. Having been that child, Delaney didn’t want another in that position. Though she escaped the mad man he must’ve done something to her because now she’s glimpsing new murders as he commits them.

It was bad enough Tighe was helpless to stop the murders he saw through the clone’s eyes but somehow Delaney’s hijacked them. His brethren’s sure Delaney’s death will restore the visions to him. Tighe’s too protective to let that happen though Delaney dredges memories he’d rather forget. When they meet, Tighe’s story ensures Delaney thinks he’s the killer on drugs. And woo hoo is he sexy!

This outing had great intrigue and the likeable leads chemistry was explosive in this cat and mouse tale. Delaney’s comfort zone of only black and white threatened the HEA a few times but softness did what softness does. The secondary thread of chasing the blade could’ve been tedious but had a twist or two of its own and was infrequent enough to create its own degree of excitement for its chapters.

The Unyielding by Shelly Laurenston

***A complimentary copy of this read was furnished by Kensington through NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased review***
Not quite ready to share her theories with her sister Crows, Erin decides to check them out on her own first. Raven Stieg Engstrom isn’t too pleased when he’s asked to watch out for banthe tiny, gorgeous, funny, chaos-magnet of a Crow, Erin Amsel. As it turns out she could use a bodyguard. It seems everybody she ever met and some she hasn’t are trying to kill her.

Stieg may be the angry pile of muscle many think he is but he’s terrifyingly protective when it comes to Erin. Because it would be fun to annoy Stieg and keep her sister Crows from asking questions Erin decides she’ll be Stieg’s houseguest. The more the pair are together, the more they want to be together. Erin and Stieg were a good couple, especially after Stieg realized she’d taken liberties with him.

Meanwhile, Raven’s, Crows and the rest of the Nine have met and decided the only one among them all that has a chance of stopping Gallveig’s return and continuing to live was Erin. They just haven’t had a chance to tell her. Erin suspects she knows who is responsible for Gallveig’s imminent return which will bring about Ragnarok and whose ever really ready for an apocalypse?!?

Wrapping the Ragnarok arc Gillvieg had no intention of living her existence in Hel. Given the high stakes, the clans were cooperative and a few of the gods checked in with support. All bets are off and nothing’s off limits as Erin and Stieg suit up in full warrior mode on their quest. This reader loved that the hero moments were plentiful and more than fierce, they were formidable.

However, the sheer number of obvious scenes designed to stress the incessant cuteness of Erin’s antics were too much, too one-note and crossed the line into annoying silliness more often than not for this readers taste, affecting my overall enjoyment of the outing. Based on ratings, this opinion is a minority.

Reluctant Mate by Lauren Dane

Successful Financial Planner Layla Warden’s determined to live life her way, good times with none of that mate stuff despite the pack and her influential, loving and boisterous family. Visiting his cousin, tattooed artist Sid Rosario, wanted more than dinner when he saw the red-headed beauty seated too far away for his taste. Layla and Sid both knew how the evening would end when he sat at her table.

Their eventful one night stand took a detour when the pair they discovered they were mates. Sid was happy with the hand Fate had dealt and try as she might, it wasn’t something Layla could ignore or walk away from. The scorching heat of tri-bond this series introduces was extremely erotically sensuous. Enjoyable but extremely short, this reader wanted much more.

Between a Wolf and a Hard Place by Terry Spear

*** Complimentary copy of this read furnished by Sourcebooks Casablanca through NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased review***

Ah, Victorian Days are upon Silver Town again! Green Valley wolves are visiting and the McTire cousins are chasing a new ghost for an upcoming show. Brett and Ellie seem headed for a dream mating until Brett makes a suggestion that’s taken all too seriously. When Brett gifts a family heirloom to the sisters for the inn in time for the celebration, the last thing Ellie and her sisters expect is a new ghost!

Unfortunately, Victorian Days this time around wasn’t the best time this reader ever had in Silver Town. The meandering mystery and unsteady romance complete with pseudo obstacles as the couple figured it out felt like so much filler. Though Brett and Ellie are likeable, sparkled as secondary wolves and have chemistry, for this reader’s taste this outing missed out on any real heat between them.

Styx’s Storm by Lora Leigh

Storme Montague is on the run from the Breeds & the Council after her scientist family is killed by a Coyote Breed as she looked on in terror. Now she’s trapped and her only escape is accepting help from her mortal enemy in the form of charming Scottish coyote enforcer Styx Mackenzie. Storme knows accepting help from Styx doesn’t mean she has to trust him or fall for his charms as she holds onto a secret that could shatter the entire Breed community.

For this readers taste, 75-80% of the read wasn’t enjoyable and felt like a betrayal with the lack of continuity; leaps of logic; bigotry; snits & mediocre storytelling. I found Storme more exhausting than dislikable and Styx’s smarm – I mean charm got to be wearing within four pages (I swear I got that he had blue eyes and liked chocolate the first 50 times I was told in this poor outing).

***SPOILER ALERT***
reasons this outing even made Storme dizzy.

Luckily I learned survival skills at 14 (driving a car, fighting & shooting, etc.) that have helped me elude the Breed and Council people looking for me over the last 10 years. During my time on the run, I’ve joined a pure-blood/breed hate group but I don’t know if my enemy is Breed or Council.

I’ve also learned to hack computers so I can find all the Breed and Council secrets, even the ones my Council buddies don’t tell me. I even have the names of the spies at Sanctuary but I haven’t had time to learn to read this pesky chip from Dad. Dad did always like Breeds best but I’m traumatized by witnessing his death at the hands a Coyote Breed.

My father was afraid of the council people he worked for and his last wish was to free breeds. With his last breath, he gave me a chip to give to someone and said they’ll have a code phrase so I’ll know he sent them.

More headscratchers? My inept past lovers didn’t do a good job and Styx will know I’m still a virgin. What braintrust knows the phrase and led a team chasing me for 10 years thinks the only way to gain my cooperation is either bully or screw it out of me? (WTF?)

Zoe has difficulty adapting to Kelly clan life having grown up with that betrayal thing at the other end of the moral compass but can’t stop her budding feelings for Joe. Though Rusty keeps Zoe’s secrets and Zoe feels the need to flee before she can’t, trouble strikes to drag her back to the life she fled.

To save her friend, Rusty has to tell Zoe’s secrets and suffers scorn from her brothers and Sheriff Seth. The teams unite to reclaim Zoe as Joe runs screaming from insta-love and marital bliss toward Zoe to hold her tight. For this reader’s taste, all that needs to be said about the villain and the only word that fits is…lame.

Impressed with Rusty’s skill, she’s offered a place at KGI and her new direction changes the Kelly landscape while the rest of the clan gathers for cameos. Stubbornly fighting his foregone conclusion with Rusty, Sheriff Sean continues to suffer a severe case of the man doth protest too much hinting at an opportunity for two romances this outing.

Lion Breed Jonas Wyatt wasn’t certain if Merinus had brought him heaven or hell when she hired her pregnant best friend, Rachel Broen as his assistant of Breed Affairs. Bengal’s Heart by Lora Leigh

Someone’s framing Breeds for a series of murders and they seem heavily invested in keeping Breed advocate and investigative reporter Cassa Hawkins (I so want to say cub reporter) involved. Cassa’s source regularly feeds evidence that the original dirty dozen of mastermind breed creators and torturers are dying using their own perfected methods used on the breeds..

Cassa knows what lines she can’t cross without losing her coveted access. Jonas is well aware her investigation threatens to spill a few secrets that cannot be aired in public. But her most closely guarded secret is one that notorious Bengal Tiger playboy, Cabal St. Laurents shares as well, that they’ve been unclaimed and unacknowledged mates for over ten years.

Though eavesdropping Carra heard enough to know it was a great story and when corroboration landed in her laptop, she knew she had to follow the lead of a lifetime to shape the story for the Breeds if nothing else. But Jonas is wily, bored and determined, he got the information as well, albeit not as straightforwardly and sent Cabal to keep his mate in line by whatever means were necessary.

For this reader’s taste, neither Cabal nor Lois Lane Cassa did well under the pressure of a star turn and it’s possible a cape on him wouldn’t have been out of place. This couple took the traditional “F***” or Fight method of communication to the extreme. It was both tedious and exhausting! This pair has an HFN not a HEA and will snipe until one is so exhausted they’ll murder the other to stop it.

Also, for my taste the romance piece would’ve been better appreciated as a novella or a secondary romance rather than the main event. He was uncharacteristically tame and she was insufferable! The mystery piece of the assassin’s identity, visits from a few recurring coyotes, a huge hint to Jonas’ comeuppance and if enforcing doesn’t work out the comedy duo of Rule Breaker & Lawe Justice can get an agent.

Garrison’s Creed by Cristin Harber

Peering through his sniper scope Titan agent Cash Garrison is stunned to see a dead woman on the arm of his intended target. He was certain no one could replace her in his heart and he’d had to hide his desolation when they buried her ten years ago. Nicola had to find out who blew her op to hell and if she’d been made but no way in hell could she get ready for Cash to blast from her past.

After nearly losing her life twice in one night and seeing Cash Nic was an emotional wreck when she landed in the road in front of a jeep. The surreal circumstances put the CIA agent face to face with her lost love and his best friend Roman, her overprotective big brother. Unaware Nic and Cash left the platonic realm years ago Roman missed a few signals as the pair bombarded her with questions.

When Nic gives an explanation the men are unhappy and sheltering Nic is the only thing Roman and Cash seem to agree on. But the op that reunited the trio led the CIA to lay a trap for a mole and invited Titan to catch while Nic played bait. As much as he didn’t want Nic to take the assignment, Cash wasn’t going to sit back and trust another man to take care of her. He just got her back. He couldn’t let go.

The reader got a complete and fun ride in this outing with bold characters sharing fairly good chemistry. The romance sparks, plus the suspense and action thrill the reader making it easy to invest in whatever is happening on the page. All that being said for this reader’s taste the reason behind Nic’s absence was too contrived and I wasn’t a fan of so much inner dialog.

Breaking Her Rules by Katie Reus

Red Stone security agent Iris Tarango married her best friend Wyatt Christensen on a whim and immediately fled to Miami. But the sexy tycoon was having none of it! Their marriage wasn’t a whim to him. He’d loved her since they were children but her job was dangerous and whatever she thought she needed he could provide.

Iris loved Wyatt but was afraid of all he represented and could only think to try to put things as they’d been before. Even the mansion in an exclusive neighborhood enclave was anathema to her. But when attempts are made on his life, Wyatt wastes no time hiring Red Stone and calls in an old favor to ensure Iris is part of his security. Almost as soon as she arrived, Iris agreed to give their marriage a try.

Another attempt causes collateral damage but with everything neatly explained the police step out and call it closed. But that same neatness worries the Red Stone team. When the culprit makes another bold and desperate strike against Wyatt, he’s unwittingly given Red Stone their own grudge and they pull out all the stops to end the terror.

Wyatt and new character Iris had really good chemistry and served their layered relationship well. This outing was the first to explore the no less decorated or desirable females at Red Stone Security, hopefully, it won’t be the last. As usual this tasty morsel of a read was just enough everything to satisfy.
